The Hub City earned its name from railroads and kept it through trucking. I-81 and I-70 cross here, and Washington County works accordingly: logistics, manufacturing, healthcare, trades. What the region has never had is proportionate mental health coverage; provider shortages run worse west of Frederick than anywhere else in the state’s populated core, and “the nearest opening is in the spring” has passed for normal.
