Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Adults and Children in Maryland and Washington, D.C
Recovery shouldn't require you to pause your entire life. At Unique Minds Behavioral Health Services, our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) sits right in the middle of the care spectrum. It is the bridge between standard weekly therapy and high-intensity hospitalization.
We designed this program for real-world healing. It allows adults to maintain their employment and children to stay in school, all while receiving the robust clinical support they need to navigate significant mental health or substance use challenges.

Our program is not just "more therapy." It is a structured curriculum led by our doctorate-level team, including Dr. Victorine Ngang and Dr. Barbara Clement Njoku.
-
Group Therapy: Small, age-separated groups where clients learn they are not alone in their struggles.
-
Individual Therapy: Focused one-on-one sessions to process deep-seated trauma or personal triggers.
-
Family Involvement: For our child and teen patients, we actively involve parents and guardians. We believe that healing the child requires healing the family dynamic.
-
Medication Management: Regular access to our psychiatric nurse practitioners to ensure medications are working effectively.
What Our IOP Includes
Conditions Treated
We treat a wide range of behavioral health issues in our IOP, ensuring each patient gets a customized plan.
-
Depression and Mood Disorders
-
Anxiety and Panic Disorders
-
Trauma-Related Disorders (PTSD)
-
Behavioral Challenges in Youth (ODD, ADHD-related issues)
-
Substance Use Disorders: We provide dual-diagnosis support for those managing addiction alongside mental health symptoms.
Scheduling & Flexibility
We know that rigid schedules can be a barrier to care. We removed that barrier.
We offer daytime and evening options at our Baltimore (Oxford House) and Washington, DC locations. This flexibility ensures that:
-
Adults can continue to work or care for their families.
-
Children and teens do not fall behind academically.
-
Treatment becomes a part of your routine, not a disruption to it.
What to Expect: The IOP Journey
Entering a new program can be intimidating. Here is exactly what happens when you join us:
-
Intake Assessment: You meet with a clinician to discuss your history and goals.
-
Customized Plan: We determine how many days per week (usually 3 to 5) you will attend based on clinical need.
-
Active Treatment: You engage in therapy, skill-building, and medication management.
-
Discharge Planning: As you improve, we gradually step you down to standard outpatient care, ensuring you have a long-term maintenance plan.
Who IOP Is For
IOP is about balance. It provides a safety net for those who need more than an hour of therapy a week but do not require 24-hour supervision.
-
Adults: Ideal for professionals or parents who need to manage their mental health without abandoning their daily responsibilities.
-
Children and Adolescents: tailored for youth who are struggling behaviorally or emotionally but can still live at home safely.
-
Step-Down Transitions: We support patients transitioning out of inpatient care or Partial Hospitalization (PHP) who are ready to reintegrate into their community.
